Match Preview: Vale vs Killeshin

Vale second team enter cup mode on Sunday when they welcome Killeshin to The Superbowl.

This will be the second time these teams have met this season.  The last encounter ended in a 2-1 win for Killeshin the league.  This was an entertaining game and the Vale lads will be hoping to overturn the result on home soil.

Coach Paddy Kerr had this to say about the cup tie:

Our league campaign has been a struggle this year and injuries to key players have not helped, particularly last week against St. Josephs.  So the cup match at home this weekend will be a welcome break from the league and gives fresh focus and hopefully a victory will have a positive effect on the rest of the season in both cup and league.

An outbreak of hamstring injuries is impacting team selection.  The Leighlin Ibra, Des Shaw, attempted a Zlatanesque overhead flick in training and tweaked his hammy.  To make matters worse, he didn’t score.  While the Leighlin Butcher, Jesse Clarke has also tweaked his hamstring ruling him out of training at least but a miraculous recovery is expected for Sunday.

Jeanne Casey has been frantically spraying the pitch green to cover the damage from last week’s games & weather.  Also Billy Lennon O’Brien, now known as Billy Costigan, has been assigned community work one day a week at The Superbowl so the dressing rooms are expected to be in tip top shape.

Kick off is a 2pm in The Superbowl, if you are around the Leighlinbridge area pop in and savour the cup atmosphere.
